Michael G. Wells
Michael is a veteran of the pharmaceutical industry with deep expertise in business development and commercialization of prescription pharmaceuticals. Michael formed Princeton Pharma Holdings, LLC for the purpose of acquiring legacy pharmaceutical products and then enhancing their distribution and availability around the world. Through a partnership with one of the world's largest private equity firms he successfully negotiated the purchase of Aton Pharma, Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co. Inc., and now serves as the President and CEO of Aton. Prior to acquiring Aton, Michael co founded Lathian Systems Inc., an innovative company that utilizes Internet technology to improve the inefficiencies within the traditional pharmaceutical sales model. During his Lathian tenure Michael held several senior management positions including Vice President of Marketing, Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Operations. He is currently on the Board of Directors for Lathian. Michael’s career began at Merck & Co. Inc., where he held positions ranging from hospital sales to brand management. He holds a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from the The Wharton School.
Chief Financial Officer
Todd M. Wallach, M.B.A., M.S.E., M.Biotechnology
Mr. Wallach has over 20 years experience in strategic planning, finance and operations. He was previously Vice President of Finance and Operations and member of the founding management team of Acuity Pharmaceuticals, a product-focused ophthalmic pharmaceutical company which is leveraging the emerging technology of RNA Interference. Todd successfully advanced the company from drug discovery through multiple Phase II clinical trials—meeting all budget and schedule objectives. At Acuity, he completed three private placements and three debt financings totaling over $24M and additionally helped to close multiple business development deals. Mr. Wallach has significant Strategy, Finance and Operations consulting experience for both emerging and large scale Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical, Communications, and Semiconductor companies through his work as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton. He has been responsible for the execution of large scale business initiatives at both Comcast Corporation and General Electric. Mr. Wallach is a member of the Institutional Review Board for Clinical Trials at the University of Pennsylvania, and is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and School of Engineering and Applied Science, speaking on business strategy and entrepreneurship. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, a Masters in Business Administration from Rider University, a Masters of Science in Technology Management from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and School of Engineering and Applied Science and a Master of Biotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Vice President, Commercial Operations
Donald A. Fishbein
Donald has over 25 years of experience in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology marketing planning, commercial development and life cycle management. Prior to joining Aton, Donald was a consultant for Strategyx and also was an independent consultant. Donald was the VP of Marketing and Corporate Product Planning at Savient, joining the company to establish the company’s initial commercial infrastructure. Donald re-launched the company’s sole commercial product, maintaining company viability for over a decade. Prior to Savient Donald was Director of Market Planning for Wyeth, responsible for their injectible pharmaceuticals division. Prior to Wyeth, Donald held marketing and marketing research positions for new and in-line products at Genentech and the McNeil Pharmaceutical division of Johnson and Johnson. Before McNeil, Donald was in planning positions at GlaxoSmithKline’s reference lab business, which became the number one lab through acquisition and is now known as Quest Diagnostics. He holds a B.A. degree in Economics from George Washington University and an MBA from The Wharton School.
Robert E. Useller
Vice President, Supply Chain Management
Bob has over 30 years of extensive operations experience with Johnson & Johnson. He has held leadership positions in Logistics, Package Development, Contract Operations, Procurement and Manufacturing. Early in his career, he was responsible for the start-up of 2 Logistics networks (Johnson & Johnson Diaper Company and McNeil Consumer Products). As Plant Manager, he led the challenging start-up of the Johnson & Johnson—Merck Joint Venture facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While in this role, he personally inspired and piloted an approach to Lean Manufacturing that served as a model for broad deployment across the company. In his last assignment as Executive Director of Process Excellence, Bob was a member of a small team of senior executives responsible for the development and deployment of a Corporate-wide business process improvement initiative. He was directly responsible for the world-wide deployment of 3 improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean Thinking and Design for Six Sigma) throughout the 7 companies in the Consumer Pharmaceuticals and Nutritionals Group of Johnson & Johnson. Bob holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from LaSalle University.
Barry L. Levinson, PhD
Vice President, Business Development
Dr. Levinson has over 20 years of extensive biotech and pharmaceutical industry experience combined with a distinguished scientific career. He was most recently the Founder and President of Park Life Science Advisory where he provided outsourced business development capabilities for life science companies. Prior to founding Park, he was a Managing Director at CPP Advisors, a boutique life sciences strategic advisory group. He was previously a Director in the Life Sciences Group at KPMG Corporate Finance, LLP, an investment bank. For the ten years prior to KPMG, Dr. Levinson held increasingly senior positions in cardiovascular research and then in business development at Berlex Laboratories, the US subsidiary of Schering A.G., most recently as Associate Director of Schering’s Office of Technology. Before Berlex, Dr. Levinson initiated and developed the protein biochemistry group at biotech startup Ecogen, and served as the company’s radiation safety officer. Dr. Levinson received his Ph.D. and master’s degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale, and was granted his bachelor’s degree with highest honors in Biochemistry from Princeton.
Kevin J. Halloran
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality
Mr. Halloran has over 28 years of regulatory, quality, manufacturing, pharmaceutical development and analytical chemistry experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Previous to joining Aton, Kevin was the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Research and Development for DOV Pharmaceutical, Inc. where he directed the Product Development, Process Development, Contract Manufacturing, Regulatory CMC and Quality operations. Included in his accomplishments was the award of a key chemistry patent for a DOV lead research compound. Prior to DOV, Kevin directed the commercial and research Regulatory CMC operations for Forest Laboratories and Knoll Pharmaceutical, where he played a key role in the approval of numerous new drug applications and important post-approval NDA supplements. While at Knoll, Kevin was recipient of the Knoll Excellence Award for his work in facilitating the approval of a new drug marketing application in Australia. During his career, Kevin has also managed the Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Analytical Chemistry functions in both research and commercial pharmaceutical operations. Kevin was recipient of the Pioneer in Laboratory Robotics Award at the 1991 International Symposium on Laboratory Automation and Robotics. Kevin holds a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Seton Hall University and a M.B.A., with honors, from the Rutgers University Graduate School of Management.
Matthias Kurth, MD, PhD
Acting Medical Director
Dr. Kurth spearheads the worldwide regulatory function for both in market and development compounds at Aton. He brings 15 years of experience in multifunctional areas including regulatory affairs, manufacturing, clinical trials and clinical practice. He was most recently the Vice President of Medical Affairs for Ceregene, a biotech company developing gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases. Prior to Ceregene Dr. Kurth was the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Technical Operations for Questcor, a specialty pharmaceutical company that focuses on CNS disorders. During his Questcor tenure he successfully designed and implemented the technology transfer programs for two medically significant products, Acthar and Ethaminol. Dr. Kurth has held related positions at other companies including Axys Pharmaceuticals, Allergan and i3 Research. He is a board certified Neurologist. He received his MD and PhD in Cell Biology from Baylor University and a BA from Rice University.
Stuart Rose, PhD
Consultant
Dr. Rose has over 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and manages the technology transfer programs for Aton’s portfolio. Dr. Rose was previously the President and CEO and one of the principals of Penick Corporation until its recent acquisition by Siegfried, a leading manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients. His career prior to Penick included positions with ICN Pharmaceuticals (now Valeant Pharmaceuticals) as Vice President Worldwide Manufacturing and as VP/GM ICN Europe and Senior Vice President for Par Pharmaceuticals. The bulk of his early career was within American Cyanamid's pharmaceutical arm, Lederle Laboratories, where the last of a series of positions was as International Vice President of Manufacturing and Logistics. In addition, Dr. Rose has routinely operated a personal consulting practice, Supply Chain Strategies, which used his strengths to advise companies around the world on manufacturing and distribution strategies, cost control, and the use of manufacturing to gain competitive advantage. Dr. Rose holds a PhD in Chemistry from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
